Traditional Irish Music, Karen Tweed's Irish Choice
by Karen Tweed
$17.25 Free Shipping
Virtuoso piano accordionist Karen Tweed has prepared this beautiful selection of 93 Irish session tunes, suitable for all instruments, with chords, tips and anecdotes. It includes her own versions of several of her favourites along with a healthy selection of session standards. With timeless reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas and slip jigs all expertly transcribed and laid out, with Karen's choice of chords and - possibly best of all - with her personal thoughts associated with those tunes, this is a marvellous anthology of her personal favorites. This is a book about traditional Irish session music, so the tunes in this book are not 'piano accordion tunes' but simply versions that Karen has learned on that instrument. They are not intended to be seen as definitive versions, just examples of how each tune can be played; you can adapt the tunes to your own instrument and style. Karen's renditions of the tunes are available on two CDs: The Silver Spire and Drops of Springwater. Mally's and UK product #AP104

101 Easy Irish Session Tunes
Compiled by Dave Mallinson
$13.25 Free Shipping
The tune settings in this book are all 'session friendly', i.e. you can learn them exactly as written and know that you will have a perfectly acceptable version. However, it can be unwise to learn a tune from only one source and, when possible, it is best, when learning a new tune, to pay heed to other books, recordings and live performances. Books will only help you to learn the notes of a tune. To pick up the rhythm of Irish music you must devote a large amount of time listening to both recordings and live musicians. Of greatest importance, you must practice; the value of this book is directly proportional to the number of hours a day you spend practicing. Chord arrangements are more or less as played on the soundtrack, but nevertheless, are only suggestions. To help those whose music reading skills only extends as far as finding the notes, a separate, optional CD has been produced (Sold Here), so you can familiarize yourself with a tune before learning it.
