Chris Gray (Scottish Small Pipes) and Ward MacDonald (fiddle and piano) are masters of Scottish roots. Chris Gray is local to MDI while\, Ward hails from Prince Edward Island. Irish sensation The Alt (John Doyle\, Nuala Kennedy and Eamon O'Leary)\, is unquestionably one of the leading Irish bands of our time. Born in Dublin Ireland\, John Doyle has been performing since he was a boy. He has been part of the genesis of many of the greatest Irish bands and recorded with nearly all the legends of our time (too many to list here) and was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work with Liz Carroll. Scottish-based Irish traditional singer and flute player Nuala Kennedy is one of the greatest Irish flute players in today's music scene. Nuala has just release her fourth solo album. Nuala is also a founding member of many great Irish bands\, including the Alt. Eamon O'Leary\, guitar\, bouzouki\, and voice\, fills out the Alt this evening. Eamon has recently risen to the top of Irish music as one of the major players and singers on the scene. The mountains and the sea inspired the music and the community culture of gathering in pubs at night for songs and tunes made the music part of the people. This afternoon's concert is hosted an old church in a seaport town where people will gather and hear songs from some of our seasoned and next generation musicians. Matt and Shannon Heaton (guitar and flute) will be playing tunes from Ireland and singing songs inspired by their Celtic roots. Joining this performance will be brother and sister duo\, Dan and Liz Faiella. Dan and Liz are launching what will undoubtably be a hugely successful music careers and we were so impressed we brought them into our concert series this year for their Acadia Trad Festival debut. Scottish Fiddle master\, Seán Heely\, from northern Virginia\, is returning Acadia Trad School for his fourth time. Seán has been winning music awards and performing since he was 10 years old. Seán is now graduating with a degree in performance setting new standards in the American Scottish fiddle scene. DESCRIPTION:The music of the Maritimes heats up the hall tonight with Kimberley Fraser\, Jenna Moynihan and Vishtèn. For over a decade\, Vishtèn has earned their place as one of the most respected bands on the international touring scene. The members of this driving trio are both powerful francophone singers and fiery multi-instrumentalists\, fusing Acadian and Celtic genres with rock and indie-folk influence. Kimberly Fraser\, from Cape Breton\, is one of the island's most talented fiddlers\, and that is saying a lot from an island where there are thousands of great fiddlers. Kimberley and Jenna met at Berklee College of Music where the formed a deep musical bond and an incredible sense of each other on the stage. Both Kimberley and Jenna studied with the masters including Daryl Anger\, Bruce Molsky and many other world class performers. Each have independently established themselves as leading players and we are excited to have them together on the same stage for this performance. Featuring Gus LaCasse\, Seán Heely\, Kevin Elam\, Eden Forman and Lukas Pool.\n\nGus LaCasse has attended Acadia Trad Festival since age 11\, and now at age 15\, has produced his second album and has performed on large stages and festivals throughout New England. Scottish Fiddle master\, Seán Heely\, from northern Virginia\, is returning to the Acadia Trad Festival for his fourth year. Seán has been winning music awards and performing since he was 10 years old. Now graduating with a degree in violin performance\, Seán is setting new standards in the American Scottish fiddle scene. Kevin Elam\, also from northern Virginia and a recent music graduate of George Mason University\, has been performing with Seán and joins him at the Acadia Trad Festival for the first time. This show is topped off with music of the Ozark Mountain Banjo Co\, Lukas Pool and Eden Forman are the real deal when it comes to old time music. Lukas hails from Arkansas where he grew up in the mountains with a banjo in his hand. Eden has been playing old time music since she was a child. She is a graduate of Berklee College school of Music where she studied with some of the greats including Bruce Molsky and Daryl Anger. Lukas and Eden are instrument makers who tour\, perform\, and teach.
